145 Bolinas Road, Fairfax
The owners of this modest cottage hired Alice to assess the historic character of the house in anticipation of renovating it.
This “Craftsman” style cottage is on the main thoroughfare of the borough of Fairfax in Marin County. It was built as a vacation cottage and rental in 1920 by a working class couple from San Francisco. Despite being slated for demolition in 1967 and 1968, the house still stands as one of the few surviving cottages from the early development of Fairfax as a vacation community. It retains a high degree of integrity and is a good example of the simplified “Craftsman”-style cottages that were common in Fairfax from 1908-1925. Alice determined that the house is locally significant for its association with the early development of Fairfax and for its architectural character.
