Seghesio Ranch, Cloverdale

Permit Sonoma directed the owners of the Seghesio Ranch to assess the potential impacts of their proposed redevelopment project on the historic character of the farm. APD Preservation had prepared an intensive HRE for the owners and determined that the main residence, a barn and the “Chianti Station” building qualified as historic resources for their association with the Seghesio family and their winemaking business. The main house and the “Chianti Station” also qualified as historic because of their architectural character. As part of their renovations, the owners proposed to restore the house based on physical and photographic evidence; no work was proposed for the barn or “Chianti Station.” Alice determined that the proposed project would not create a sense of false historicism and would be consistent with the “Secretary’s Standards.”
